Pushpanathan Sundram (Nathan) is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Public Policy Asia  Advisors Pte. Ltd, a strategic and business advisory firm headquartered in Singapore covering emerging Asia.  Nathan was the first professionally recruited Deputy Secretary-General (Deputy Minister) of ASEAN for the ASEAN Economic Community from Jan 2009 to Mar 2012.  He held other senior positions in the ASEAN Secretariat from 1997 to 2008.

He has more than three decades of extensive management and leadership experience at the highest level of government, international organisations and the private sector. He is sought after as a consultant, resource person and speaker.

Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Food and Agriculture Committee of the US-ASEAN Business Council; Council Member of China-ASEAN Business Alliance; Advisory Board Member of the Global Coalition for Efficient Logistics; and Executive Committee Member of the Asian Animal Health Association.

Nathan received several commendations and awards in his career.  In 2013, he received the PublicAffairsAsia Magazine’s top Gold Standard Award for Professional Excellence for his pioneering work in government affairs in Asia as the Managing Director of the European Advisory Services.  In 2012, he was awarded the Sahametrey Medal (Commander Class) by the Government of Cambodia for leading economic integration in ASEAN.  In 2011, he was awarded the inaugural and prestigious NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy Outstanding Alumni Award for inspiring leaders.  In 1995, he received the Good Service Medal from the Ministry of Defence, Singapore.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the NUS Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in collaboration with the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA.  He is completing his PhD in Public Policy with the School of Public Policy, Chiang Mai University.

He writes on ASEAN and Asia issues which are covered in local, regional and international media. He has authored books and contributed chapters to books related to ASEAN and Asia.
